| RUMSDEN HERD OF PEDIGREE CHAROLAIS CATTLE IntroductionRumsden Farm is located in the South East of England, within easy reach of Gatwick airport, the Channel Tunnel, and Dover. Owned by Rupert Taylor Ltd, a family run company which specialises in Noise and Vibration Control, the Rumsden Herd of Pedigree Charolais cattle was formed in 1995 and has been very successful in a short time due to a combination of purchasing top quality foundation stock and total commitment to breeding the perfect beef animal. Visitors are always welcome by appointment. Mission StatementTO BREED A MEDIUM SIZED EASY FLESHED COW CAPABLE OF REARING A QUALITY CALF EVERY YEAR FROM A LOW INPUT SYSTEM. Champions from Rumsden over the years....Throughout this web page you will find underlined text, often the names of cattle. Click on any underlined text to see the page about that beast or news item.
About our BusinessOur business can be divided into two main areas:
Our first and main interest, which now consists of a herd of about 25 top quality pedigree breeding females plus followers. In the last ten years we have sold bulls in Perth up to 14,000gns for Rumsden Samurai, and in the show ring we have won numerous breed and Interbreed Championships. The highlight for us was in July 2003 at the Royal Show where our homebred heifers took 3 of the five maiden heifer classes and Rumsden Solitaire went on to be Reserve Female Champion (see pic above)
In 2001 we set up a contract to import mainly charolais semen from Southern Ireland. This has taken off to such an extent that we now have over 300 semen customers. And our bulls have not let us down. In February 2004 one of our customers topped Perth sales with a bull by Doonally Prince, semen bought from us, selling for 28,000gns. In 2004 we expanded our semen business to include Limousin as well as Charolais bulls. Top selling bull in 2004and 2005 for the Charolais is Doonally New, and for the Limousin is Rocky, although exciting limousin prospect Navarin is also popular. Our small herd of commercial show cattle was dispersed in 2008 after providing us with some notable successes. In November 2002 we entered the Royal Smithfield Show in London for only the second time, and came away with the Reserve Supreme Steer in the show, with a homebred pure Charolais steer, "Eat my Shortts". We were also awarded the magnificent King's Cup for the Champion Exhibitor Bred beast in the Show. And so the "fatstocking" bug has bitten. Smithfield Show is only held every 2 years, and in 2004 we had Angus Champion with Cruz Missile, and Reserve for the Queens Cup (Best Native), and won the Duke of Norfolk Trophy. We also had 1st prize and Best BBx steer with Black Thunder. We now have established a small herd of about 20 commercial cattle, and have 8 pedigree limousin females. Our commercials are already being successful. In 2005 we had Supreme Champion at the South Eastern Primestock Winter Fayre with an imported Irish Bullock, and also Supreme Champion at the Hailsham Fatstock Show with a homebred Limousin X steer. In 2006 we had commercial champion at Kent County Show and Reserve st Edenbridge with Mini Me, and we were again champion at the SEPSWF with a homebred Charolais X heifer, Henna. That year we had two seconds and a fourth at Smithfield, and the best home bred Intermediate weight steer. Rumsden Farm is a trading name ofRupert Taylor Ltd
