NORTHERN IRELAND TRIP SEPT 2011Our trip to Northern Ireland in September 2011 was as enjoyable as it was interesting. We would like to thank the N I Charolais Breeders Club for inviting us to judge their prestigeous National Charolais Show at Fintona. Bob judged the Pedigree and Commercial Classes, which with 99 cattle entered proved to be a challenge. He chose as Male Champion Mr Sinnamon's Aughafad Foreman, a Sportsmans Columbo son. in Reserve was Woodpark Fortknox ET by Corrie Alan. Female Champion was Glencoe Elegance from the Macdonalds, a daughter of Ashleigh Victor. Commercial champion was Kenny Veitch's heifer sired by Doonally New. Fiona judged the twenty young handlers and awarded Champion to Alan Burleigh showing for his grandfather Harold Stubbs. We also visited Paddy Gallgher who purchased our Royal Show Junior Champion Rumsden Donegal. She was looking fabulous, rearing her Moyness Vaubon sired heifer calf. On the Satuarday we visited a couple more herds, and picked out a very smart ET heifer calf sired by Cottage Devon. We were also impressed with the Corrie Alan progeny, and the first crop by Sportsmans Columbo. We also saw a nice Esperanto calf, which was following the stamp described by Chris Pennie: clean middled, stylish and easy calved.
