Press Release 29th September 2011

Those more observant Charolais breeders may have noticed one bull that is noticeable by his absence from the Stirling catalogue. The top winning yearling bull of all breeds from this summer, Rumsden Fawkes, has been sold in a private deal for an undisclosed five figure sum to Northern Irish breeder Paddy Gallagher from Maghera. Fawkes, whose successes included the Interbreed Junior Championships at the Royal Highland, Royal Welsh, and South of England Shows, was also Breed Champion at the Royal Welsh and Reserve Breed Champion at the Highland, where he picked up the Beefbreeder Championship as well. His pedigree is top class, being a son of the 55,000gns sire Thrunton Voldemort, out of a daughter of the ever popular Doonally New. His immediate female family has produced a number of pedigree herd sires in recent years, and also the Reserve Junior Champion at Carlisle in May 2010.

His breeders Rupert Taylor Ltd are delighted with the sale, which sees the bull remaining in their herd for the next few months. Fawkes will be serving some of the 40 plus females that will be for sale in the Rumsden Dispersal at Carlisle on May 12 th 2012. He has a Terminal Index of +38 and figures for 200, 400 and 600day growth in the top 1% of the breed. Semen has already been collected, and will be jointly marketed. Initially it is only available in Mainland UK, and the price has been set at £20 per straw. This includes all delivery charges, and with no royalty fees, makes it excellent value for both pedigree and commercial breeders alike. More information is available from the Rumsden website www.britishcharolais.com.

New owner Paddy Gallagher, commented “I am delighted with the purchase of Fawkes and see him as a step forward for my Gallaran herd. He exhibits exceptional style, length, muscle, and size, which are factors that I feel are very important for the future of the Charolais breed. I first picked out Fawkes as a calf at Rumsden and have had great enjoyment watching his successful show career this summer. I hope he will put a few trophies on the sideboard for me too in the future.”
