Perth Bull Sales October 2008The Perth bull sales went very well for the Charolais breed, with 108 bulls selling to average £5,564. Scottish bulls were very much in demand, with buyers wary of purchasing from the BTV8 zone, despite the assurance of veterinary vaccinations. Of the 11 South East bulls forward only 5 found buyers, including our two entries. Calamazu was the best of the South East bulls, placing 2nd in his class to the overall top priced bull, and selling for 3,800gns to a very exciting partnership between a commercial farmer in Caithness, and Australia's top Charolais breeder, David Bondfield. Calamazu heads to Balathie to be tested prior to entering AI station so that semen for export to Australia and be collected from him. Our other bull, Czar, sire by Rumsden Tsar, sold to a partnership between two well known Scottish stockmen. Rumsden Tsar had another good sale, his best son selling for 7,000gns for breeder Will Short of Woodpark Charolais. Tsar has now bred bulls for 13,000gns, 11,000gns, and 7,000gns. Semen sires from Rumsden were also doing well. Steven Hunter's Indurain son from a Doonally New cow sold for 8,000gns, and Doonally New sons sold for 7,500gns and 6,800gns. The sold entry sired by New son Dromiskin Viceroy sold for 6,000gns. Please note that we have only 30 doses of Indurain semen left, selling for £30 each.
