2009 Show Cows calve safely in 2010Just as a brief footnote to the 2009 show season, we are delighted to announce the arrival of calves for both of the cows that we showed in 2009.Firstly, Rumsden Akita has produced a big strong bull calf, Rumsden Fiji, by Doonally Olmeto, born on 20th February 2010. Akita will not be five until May, yet she has produced 3 live calves and been shown for four consecutive years. As a yearling she was 2nd in her class at the Royal, which she repeated as a two year old, when she was also 3rd at the Royal Welsh. There was no Royal for us when she was three, because of BTV8, but she won her class on each of her four outings and was breed champion at Surrey County for the second conssecutive year. In 2009 at four years old with her second calf at foot she was 3rd at the Highland and Breed Champion at Kent County. In 2010 she will have a well earned year off. Akita's first calf Delta is already following in mum's footsteps having been placed 4th at the Royal in 2009.Secondly, Rumsden Bianca has produced her second heifer calf just a week before her fourth birthday. A lovely calf by french bred sire Alex, Rumsden Fuchsia looks set to be an excellent breeding prospect, with Alex's dam Joconde being the highest maternal rated cow in the whole of France! Bianca has been shown for three years, twice winning supreme Interbreed at Heathfield Show. In 2009 she was 1st at the Royal Show and 2nd at the Royal Highland. She too will have a year off in 2010 as we will be concentrating on youngstock this year.
