Show Cattle from RumsdenShows 2006Summer 2006 has been one to remember. At Heathfield we had Male and Breed Champion with Burnside Taz, Female Champion with Rumsden Akita and Reserve Female Champion with Rumsden Aurora. At Surrey County we won Breed and Interbreed Champion with Burnside Taz. We were interbreed group of three champions with Rumsden Aussie, Avalon and Ambrose. Ambrose won his class, and Aussie was Reserve Breed Champion. At South of England Rumsden Aussie was Breed, Female Interbreed, and Reserve Supreme Champion. Taz was Male and Reserve Breed Champion, and Aurora was Reserve Female Champion. At the Royal we had two seconds. a third and a fourth prize. At Kent Taz was again Breed Champion, and Mini Me was Champion Commercial. Snowball was supreme in the Young Farmers section. At Cranleigh Taz was Breed and Interbreed Champion. Around was Reserve Male Champion. Shows 2005Fatstock - Xmas 2005 - South Eastern Primestock Winter Fayre - Rumsden win Supreme Summer - The first show of 2005 was Heathfield on 28th May. After many years of trying, we finally won the show, with our 4 year old cow, Rumsden Silver, standing Breed and Interbreed Champion. We also had 2nd and 3rd in a strong yealing heifer class, and 1st with yearling bull Bevern Valiant. Silver, Vertu and Violet also won the Interbreed group of three award. Other Rumsden cattle doing well included two exhibits from Martin Gibbons Valentino Herd, jointly owned Rumsden Udimore Male Champion and Rumsden Viva Reserve Female Champion. Udimore went on to stand Male and Reserve Breed Champion at Surrey Show, and 2nd at The Royal Show, where Viva was 3rd. At South of England Show we were delighted to win Junior Charolais Champion with Rumsden Violet, and Reserve Junior Interbreed Champion. Also, many congratulations to Richard Wakeham Dawson of Graywood Charolais who brougt out Rumsden Ultra, by Doonally Olmeto, to win Breed and Female Interbreed Champion at South of England, and was 4th at the Royal Show. At the Royal Show, Rumsden Cattle did well throughout. In a very strong yearling heifer class, Rumsden Viva for Martin Gibbons was 3rd, Rumsden Vision for Richard Wakeham Dawson was 4th and our own Rumsden Violet was 5th. Rumsden Udimore was 2nd of 8 in the 2 year old bull class, and 3rd of 18 in the MLC class. At Kent Show we won 1st with Silver in the cow class. Silver will now be retired from showing. With a Royal Show 1st as a heifer, and an interbreed show champion as a cow, she has earned her retirement! We also won ist with Bevern Valiant in the young bull class, and 1st and Reseve champion commercial with lisduff lad. SHOW TEAM Rumsden Silver (cow) with calf at foot Rumsden Arrow Rumsden Violet (yearling heifer) by Doonally Nicefor Rumsden Vertu (yearling heifer) by Enfield Plexus Rumsden Velvet (yearling heifer) by Allanfauld Vagabond Bevern Valiant (yearling bull) by Doonally Prince We shall also be showing a limousin cross steer in the fatstock classes. And later in the year we may take out a younger charolais heifer, a limousin heifer and a charolais cross heifer. Also showing Rumsden beasts will be Martin Gibbons with his new stock bull Rumsden Udimore, Oldborough Manor YFC with two of our yealing heifers, and Richard Wakeham Dawson with his exceptional heifer Rumsden Ultra. Good luck to all! Shows 2004There were a number of reasons why we did not show in 2004, the main one being that Bob badly injured his ankle back in January, and it is still not fully recovered. Unfortunately, the majority of the work that is needed to bring out a top show team is undertaken in the spring months before the show season, when he just wasn't able to do it. However, we have still supported the shows helping out new exhibitors Richard Wakeham Dawson and Martin Gibbons, both of whom have based their new herds around Rumsden stock. Richard showed Rumsden Ultra by Doonally Olmeto to stand second at the Royal Show at his very first attempt. Martin clocked up a string of first prizes in his first season, including two with his new stock bull Rumsden Tahoe. Shows 20032003 was our best year ever. We had a full show team of pedigrees and commercials, and brought home plenty of prizes, which is always very rewarding for all involved. Our extended show team was: Rumsden Riva (Glenleary Micron x Westmarden Faith) born March 2000 with Jan 2003 bull calf at foot by Simpsons Gregg (Riva is now sold to Valentino Charolais) Rumsden Solitaire (Silver Prometheus x Rumsden Obsession) born Jan 2001 in calf Rumsden Silver (Silver Mephisto x Westmarden Faith) born April 2001 in calf Rumsden Twilight (Doonally New x Rumsden Moonlight) born April 2002 Rumsden Tosca (Doonally Olmeto x Rumsden Optima) born May 2002 Rumsden Tsar (Pti Prince x Rumsden Oolala) born May 2002 Rumsden Tennessee (Killadeas Jack x Warninglid Hoya) born June 2002 Rumsden Terminator (Rumsden Predator x Rumsden Mystique) born June 2002 Kylie (Charolais x heifer) Tricky Woo (Lim x heifer) Spot the Difference (Pied x steer) Shortt Circuit (Charolais steer) Ace of Spades (lim x steer) Cormac (Lim x steer)
Heathfield, our local show, is always the first show of the season when it is not cancelled! This was the first time livestock classes had been held for four years due to weather and the F&M. We have always been a bit disappointed with our performance at our local show, but this year we exceeded all expectations. In the charolais section we won all the classes. Riva won the cow/heifer with calf class. Solitaire won the two year old heifer calf, and Silver was second. Tosca won the baby heifer class, and Tennessee won the bull class. Solitaire was female and Breed champion, and Tosca was reserve. Kylie also won the butchers championship, and we won the interbreed team of three competition. Then, in the interbreed championship, judge John Giffin placed Rumsden Tennessee aged 11 months old as Reserve Male champion. To cap it all we won a beautiful rosebowl for the most points in the livestock classes, what a day! We were unable to do Surrey County due to the 7 day standstill rules, so our next outing was to South of England, the biggest show in the region, and always very hotly contested. We were second in the three year old heifer class with Riva, first and third in the two year old heifer class with Solitaire and Silver, first in the baby heifer class with Tosca, and second in the bull class with Terminator. Solitaire and Tosca again stood female champion and Reserve, and the Solitaire was awarded Reserve Breed Champion behind the senior bull. On the second day, this decision was reversed, with Solitaire standing female and reserve supreme interbreed behind an Angus bull. We also won the Interbreed progeny group of three with Riva, Solitaire and Silver, all daughters or granddaughters of Westmarden Faith, which was a competiton we had always wanted to win, and particularly emotional as we had lost old Faith the month before with arthritis. At the Royal, we were delighted to win three first prizes with Solitaire, Silver and Tosca. Just to win one at the Royal show is such an achievement, so it was a fairytale day for us. Solitaire was Reserve Female and Exhibitor bred champion, and our only other charolais entry, twilight, was fourth in her class too, so it was magic. Kylie was fourth in the commercials, which were very strong classes. Kent is a show that has always been good to us. Solitaire was again breed champion, and retired unbeated for the season, as did Tosca after picking up her fourth 1st prize ticket. Tsar won the bull class and was reserve champion. Solitaire, Silver and Tosca were then 3 of the four members of the charolais group of four that stood reserve champion in the Doubleday interbreed competition. Edenbridge show, over 6 weeks later, was the first major fatstock outing for us. We took only one in the charolais classes, and came away with male champion for Rumsden Terminator. We also took reserve champion in the commercial section with purebred heifer, Twilight. Twilight won first in her class at the National Primestock show, and we had two thirds, and reserve champion piedmontese sired. We sold our charolais bullock for £1.32/kg and our pied x stter for £1.35/kg. At the South Eastern Primestock Show we won the charolais class again with Twilight, and took reserve local champion with Cormac. At Hailsham Christmas Show Cormac was reserve Champion steer and sold for £1.35/kg. We took three beasts, and all won first prizes. At Ashford Christmas Show we were steer champion with Ace of Spades, and he sold for £2/kg, which was an exceptional price, so we ended the year on a high note! Shows 2002We only had a small team, but the results were wonderful. We took 2 cattle to our first show, Surrey County. Our yearling heifer, Rumsden Solitaire, won her class and stood breed champion. Our 2 year old bull Rumsden Predator also won his class. We took 4 to our second show, South of England. Solitaire again won her class, and Rumsden Rigel stood second in the same class. Rumsden Predator was second in his class to the overall Show champion, and was sold. Rumsden Samurai (Allanfauld Vagabond x Rumsden Nutmeg) 8.5.01 won the yearling bull class and was Reserve Male Champion. He was also 2nd in the MLC class. All these 4 cattle were born from heifers. We took two yearlings to The Royal Show. Solitaire was second in the biggest class of the day to the heifer that stood junior female Champion. Samurai won the biggest bull class of the day, and we declined a number of offers of £5000 for him. He was subsequently sold for 14,000gns at Perth in October. We took a full load of cattle to Kent County as it is our final summer show, and always treats us well. We had a wonderful three days and came home with masses of prizes, as follows: Rumsden Solitaire 1st and Breed Champion. Rumsden Silver (Silver Mephisto x Westmarden Faith) (April 2001). 2nd in the same class on her first outing. Silver is related to Solitaire on both sides. Faith is Solitaires maternal granddam, and Mephisto is her paternal grandsire! Rumsden Rigel – 2nd Rumsden Samurai – 1st and Reserve Breed Champion. Rumsden Supersonic (Simpsons Gregg x Lendor Jessica) – 2nd to Samurai. Lendor Jessica – 1st prize. Jessica and Supersonic – 1st prize in the class for pair of related animals. On the second day the Charolais team of four took the interbreed group
title for the first time in 10 years. Samurai and Solitaire were both
in the group. On the third day, Samurai won the MLC Beefbreeder class,
and he and Solitaire were second in the Interbreed Pairs class. Not to
be outdone, Heidi Odenbreit took our purebred freemartin heifer Nessie2
out in the Young Farmers section, and won four 1st prizes and
Champion. Nessie2 was 4th at Smithfield later in 2002. We started showing in 1996, with a small team of cattle. Lancaster was first at Heathfield and second at Surrey County, and Lisa also won her class at Heathfield. We were placed many times, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. In 1997 Rumsden Montague won the yearling bull classes at Heathfield and Kent. At Heathfield he was Male and Reserve Breed Champion, and at Kent he was Reserve Male Champion. 1997 was also our first year showing Mirage. She won her classes at South of England and Cranleigh, and was second in the heifer sweepstakes at Kent. Another yearling bull, Rumsden Melrose, won his class at Surrey County. In 1998 Mirage won her class and was Reserve Breed Champion at Kent. She also won the heifer sweepstakes at Kent. 1998 was the first year we attempted fatstock showing. Pedigree yearling Rumsden Nessie was 1st and Reserve Champion in the Fatstock section at Heathfield, 5th at RASE, 1st and Charolais Champion at SEPSWF, and 2nd at Smithfield. Our yearling bulls also did well. Notorious won his class at Kent, and Newcastle won his class at Surrey. Northstar won the calf class at Cranleigh. 1999 was a year that exceeded all our expectations. Mirage won her class at Surrey, South of England, RASE, Kent and Edenbridge. At Surrey she was Breed Champion, at South of England she was Female and Reserve Breed Champion, at Kent she was Interbreed Champion, and at Edenbridge she was Breed and Female Interbreed Champion. We were also Interbreed group of three winners at Heathfield and Surrey, and Interbreed Pairs winners at Edenbridge. Jessica was second at RASE, and first at Kent. Original was 1st and Reserve Breed Champion at Heathfield, and 1st at Surrey. In 2000 we did less showing than usual, partly because of our Open Day, and also because Heathfield Show was cancelled due to the wet weather. However, we took Lendor Jessica and Rumsden Optima (by Andrews Miracle) to Surrey County. Both won their classes, and Jessica was Breed Champion. We took Mirage and Rumsden Pegasus (by Shoyswell Macbeth) to South of England. Mirage was 1st, Reserve Female Champion, Reserve Breed Champion, and Reserve Interbreed Champion. Pegasus was Reserve Male Champion and fourth in the MLC class. At RASE, Mirage and Jessica stood 3rd and 8th respectively in an outstanding class of 21 cows. Optima was 6th in a strong class, and Pegasus was 7th of 18, so we were very pleased. Kent was, as usual, a wonderful show for us. Mirage was again Breed and Reserve Supreme Champion, this time being beaten by a Blonde bull. These were the only four shows we did in 2000.
